MRI-Gadolinium-Toxicity Support@MRI-Gadolinium-Toxicity.groups.io

Welcome to MRI-Gadolinium-Toxicity, a support group for people affected by the toxic effects of gadolinium retained from Gadolinium-based Contrast Agents (GBCAs) used for contrast-enhanced MRI and MRA.  This group was formed in 2012 to provide support and information to affected patients and their families.  Members offer each other support while sharing ideas on how to deal with the symptoms of Gadolinium Toxicity.  You must apply for membership or be invited to join the group.

In 2014, two members started the Lighthouse Project at www.GadoliniumToxicity.com to inform the public about this potential health risk that could affect all patients who have MRIs with a GBCA.  Retention of gadolinium (Gd) is known to have serious consequences, including the incurable and potentially life-threatening disease known as Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis (NSF), which is believed to occur only in patients with severe renal disease.

While NSF may be the most severe manifestation of Gadolinium Toxicity, there is no reason to think it will be the only one.  A growing body of research shows retention of Gd, months or even years after contrast administration, in the brain, bones, and other tissues of patients with normal renal function.

All those affected by gadolinium are encouraged to apply for membership.
